A Buy to Let landlord has mounted a legal challenge to claim back his repossessed property which it is alleged he lost due to a mortgage fraud.
Akhtar Mohammed from Birmingham bought the Alum Rock house as an investment and began to rent it out.
But he told police his tenants forged a copy of the deeds to the property from the Land Registry and took out their own mortgage using the false documents.
Mohammed only discovered the scam when he visited the property and found a repossession order from a mortgage company addressed to him. It listed debts of more than £100,000.
There have been similar crimes in the Midlands in recent months.
Mohammed Urfan Al Haq, Shazad Hussain Aslam, and Sandeep Kaur were given jail sentences in June after a million pound mortgage fraud.
This again involved the fraudsters getting the title deeds to properties before taking out loans using the properties as security.
• Around 100 people are to lose their jobs with the Halifax following the news that it is to close 53 of its estate agent outlets.
The move is being blamed on falling house prices and a constriction in credit from mortgage companies.
Another 450 employees are to be moved in to the Halifax's bank branch network to work as in-house agents.
