With the current weather producing 94 flood warnings across the country, properties belonging to residential landlords will be among the one in four homes in England and Wales are at potential risk from flooding according the Landmark Information Group.
Plus in Scotland, the Government says there are approximately 100,000 homes at risk from flooding, however Landmark Information Group predicts this figure to be much higher.
James Sherwood-Rogers, Managing Director of Landmark Legal and Financial, which is leading the ‘Know Your Flood Risk’ campaign in association with the National Flood Forum said: “Reports suggest that approximately one in four homes in England and Wales are at potential risk from flooding and so it is essential that homeowners are taking sufficient steps to protect their properties.
“The last two years have seen thousands of properties destroyed as a result of serious flooding causing millions of pounds in damage. Already this year it looks as if we are heading for another year of heavy rainfall so it is essential that householders know the potential risk to their property and how to be prepared in case of a flood.
“Flood risk is now a fact of life in the UK. Reports of flooding are now on average twice as frequent as they were 100 years ago and experts from the Met Office and world leaders in climate change predict we could see a significant increase in flood risk in the coming years.
“Only this week it was announced that housebuilders are still building on flood plains despite warning from insurers that homes will not be covered and could be left unsalable.
“We have recently launched the ‘Know Your Flood Risk’ campaign with the National Flood Forum to help educate and encourage homeowners and property professionals to find out their own flood risk.
